Purdon Conservation Area Photos

Friends invited me to join them to visit this wonderful conservation area near Smith Falls, Canada. The area is famous for a wild bloom of the Showy Lady's Slipper Orchid. Unfortunately it was a cloudy rainy day but the flowers were beautiful nonetheless. C and C welcome.

I find overcast conditions often work best for many flowers, Stu. It is bright sunshine which causes me most problems.

Not sure what you get in the way of flowers over there but in the UK we have a Bladder Campion (Silene vulgaris) which looks rather similar to the plant with that Skipper butterfly.

I prefer #3 best...it is the simplicity of the whole image that caught my attention here but I believe #1 could be made better if the other flowers are not there or cropped out totally to make it into a square crop...

Thanks Izzie. I was torn with #1 as is because I wanted to include a couple of other flowers in the background but I guess you're right, they seem to be more of a distraction than a complimentary feature. I'll go back and have a look at crop on that one.

I honestly don't know yet what the flowers are in the photo with the Skipper, Geoff. I'm consulting with some friends who are regular flower photographers. To be honest I'm quite new to photographing / identifying flowers so I have some work ahead of me as they make beautiful subjects!
