Recommendation for neck strap and remote shutter

Going to combine my request into one thread...
I'm looking for recommendations on the following:

1. a new neck strap. I'm wearing the camera all day at times and while the weight doesn't really bother me (i'm sure it plays a role), the lack of padding around the neck strap usually chaffes or bugs me. I had found blackrapid but can't really get a sense of those and they seem to be more shoulder straps.

2. remote shutter for canon dslr. I have the RC-6 which works for being in front of the lens. But if shooting any timed photos or want to avoid camera shake, looking for recommendations on a remote.

For the second item, I got a wireless remote from Amazon or was it e-bay (what ever), Chinese knock off for my Nikon as Nikon does not make one for the D90, D7000, or D600 used it with all three. It is not that little one that you have to stand in front of the camera.

Basically, there are two types of connections for wired remotes on Canon DSLR cameras. Within these two families of connections, there are remotes that simply trip the shutter and there are also a myriad of different timer remotes. However, the first thing you need to do is to get a remote with the correct connector...

However, there are a few non-Rebel cameras which use the connection type prevalent with the Rebel Models. I believe that the 60D uses the rebel type prong connection.

I suggest that you determine what type of connector your camera uses and start from there.

I have both a corded shutter release and a timer. I'll admit that I have had problems working with the timer but, I think that might be operator error. The timers usually allow delays, longer shutter speeds than 30 seconds and often have intervalometers built into them. The corded shutter release simply trips the shutter and uses the camera settings (usually up to 30 seconds).

Yongnuo and perhaps other manufacturers have non wired remote timers. I have not worked with any of them!

Black Rapid not my thang, either. I use neoprene straps--they don't chafe, and the springiness tends to make the camera feel lighter. Usually the OpTech Classic (SLR) or Fashion (mirrorless). I like that the quick releases are opposites on the ends, so you can snap them together: i.e., if I remove the strap from the camera with the quick releases, I can form a short strap on the camera and make the loose neckstrap into a loop.

Don't know if my solution would work for you, but I occasionally do off-camera flash, and I just use cheap radio flash triggers as a remote shutter release. No fancy intervalometers or anything (but I have Magic Lantern for that), but no line-of-sight requirements, and it's gear I already own. You hook the receiver up to the shutter release port with the appropriate cable, and use the transmitter in-hand as your remote. Most of the cheap manual radio triggers can serve double-duty as both shutter release and flash triggers.

I agree with Kathy about neoprene straps. I also have an Optech strap and I'm very happy with it. I like a a wide strap, whether for a dslr or mirrorless .

For straps I have an Op/Tech dual harness. Very comfy even with one camera and I can wear a backpack with it. Great for urban/day use but I found it a pain wearing it while traipsing through the woods. There is no built-in solution to mitigate the camera(s) swinging around. So I also have a Cotton Carrier two-camera vest. A better solution for me while bushwacking and can still comfortably wear a backpack (with hip strap) with it. I’m not a huge fan of neck straps and prefer harness-type. After a while neck straps bug me enough that they end up being a shoulder strap to get it off my neck.

Wireless remote trigger is Phottix Aion. Very happy with it after extensive use and no line-of-sight required.

for one camera with my 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens and I carried the other camera with a 70-200mm f/4/L IS lens in a Tamrac Zoom-90 holster case. That camera has a hand strap.

Most often, I will use the OPTECH Dual Harness but, for that trip I decided that I wanted more security. It turned out to be a pretty comfortable strap and I am shooting less and less with the Dual Harness and more and more with the security strap and the Tamrac holster. Except I use the Dual Harness when I want to carry both cameras with flashes attached....

The security strap has a metal able running through it which would prevent a slash and run thief.

I use the Canon remote switch. It doesn't have a super long cord but allows you to stand off to one side or behind the camera.

Totally agree here, Terry. I have pretty well always used camera straps as should straps. I find that positioning is also a lot better for swinging the camera into shooting position. As for the Cotton Carrier, I have one of those too and that is my preferred way of carrying my camera when I am out in the woods and need my hands free. I also use it in town if I will be shooting for most of the day.

I also use an Optech strap and like it. The most comfortable strap I have ever used is the Crumper "industry disgrace," but it seems that they are no longer manufactured.

I use two remote releases. When I just want a remote release, I use a cheap Yongnuo I bought on eBay. When I want a timer, I use a Hahnel Giga T Pro II. It's a bit complicated to learn how to use, but it does what I need. I bought it primarily to control night shots that have exposures longer than my camera will do on its own.

I shoot almost nothing but candid street and carry either three or four bodies plus lenses depending on whether I'm using SLRs or rangefinders.
To alleviate the problems of neck strain and strap slippage from shoulders, after much thought and experimentation I came up with what I consider to be the perfect solution.
first, I wear a photo-vest which started life as a fishing vest (vastly less expensive to purchase and otherwise almost identical to photovests) and has been heavily customized by me to be the ideal vest.
Among the things I've done is add a padded collar so when I carry cameras around my neck the strap is not resting directly on my neck which eases the burden considerably.
Additionally, I have sewn large patches of Velcro to the vest's epaulettes, as well as on the underside of my camera straps. The resulting bond is very strong and slip proof, and if a connection between the strap and camera ever fails, the body will simply dangle by the other end and not fall to the ground.
I've used this system for a number of years and have carried my motorized Nikon F2AS plus Nikkor 300 2.8 and a monopod (total weight close to 10 LBs) off my shoulder without any problems.
I have touted this system at various photo sites for years, but don't believe anyone has ever taken my advice and followed suit.
But for what it's worth here it is.

For a timer and remote release I use a TC-80N3 and it has performed without a problem for more than ten years, but if I were buying one now, Dan's radio controlled Hahnel would have my attention.
