Thanks John! I could not ID this one but an "expert" on my one of the birding sites on which I post said he thought it to be a Black-chinned female.

I've a tree just outside my place that is frequented by hummingbirds so I've also been trying to capture these beautiful little birds with some justice. Struggling with low light as they seem to come out just around sunrise and sunset. Mine are shy but I'm going to wear something red next time around and see if it makes a difference.

    PS Meep Meep - exquisite!
Thanks Christina! I was fortunate that where we were in west Texas the hummers are out all day and abundant. They really need light on the feathers or they don't show the wonderful colors. I know of several photogs here that have off camera flash set ups near their feeders. They end up with lovely results and say it does not seem to bother the birds as they continue to come back.

That was the approach I took for shooting them.

    Hi Barbara,

Thanks for sharing. I don't have any flashes, yet and I'm still not sure if might be harmful to use on birds. There is not a lot of information out there on the subject, mostly controversy, so I need to do more research. I know that I don't like flash in my eyes. Maybe I'll start a thread to learn more on the topic.

I wouldn't like it in my eyes either and honestly prefer a nature environment for shooting but the person that first suggested it to me is a well recognized (in our area) and published wildlife photographer.

Beautiful capture Barbara. They are certainly a challenge to say the least.
I've tried them numerous times... and continue to do so. More go to the thrash
    bin than to the folder!

    Wonderful style and composition.

Using flash when photographing birds is very much like using flash when photographing humans; when it's best to use it we should and when it's not best we shouldn't.

Thank you Irene. I've not really had much opportunity before this trip to try but I will definitely be on the lookout for opportunities from now on.

Thank you Mike! I am not good with the flash so I always avoid it when possible I really need to work on that as it limits me in my photography.
