    Forest Princess C&C Welcomed

I finally convinced my niece to let me take some pictures. Wanted to do something a bit out of the box (for me) and experiment a bit...

This was part of the result:

    #1 ISO 3200; F1/250; F2.8; 70mm

    Forest Princess C&C Welcomed

#2 This one does have an artist spin that was done PP (sorry for the watermark, but it was done in two apps and didn't want to recreate to just remove it) ISO 4000; F1/50; F2.8; 70mm

    Forest Princess C&C Welcomed

    #3 ISO 3200; F1/250; F2.8; 70mm

Looks good, Kim; although I would selectively slightly tone down the background in #3 to get those green spots about the same as #1.

Very nice, 1 and 3 for me. 2nd image is a bit soft but that may have been your intention.

Very nice shots Kim I just want to say that the color of her hair on top of her head looks darker than the rest of it and makes the seperation from BG difficult. I agree with Geoff about the BG in #3. Your niece is beautiful.

Thanks John. The original of #2 was in focus... I softened it PP, as I wanted a look I knew she would prefer for this one.

I like #2 as well Izzie for the same reason. I had a really hard time getting her to relax, and this was one moment when she did.

Thank you for commenting Geoff, David and Binnur -- I appreciate it. Here's the third one with the BG toned down a bit and a slight lightening of the top of her head.

Agreed, I think the WB is better too (in #3a), giving improved skin tone (e.g. on her arm)

Kim, was the 'artistic spin' in #2 the flare on our right hand side?
Being honest, I'm not sure that works for me, although her pose and expression are much better than #1.

I had hoped Manfred might see and comment on this thread, since he has far more portrait experience than I.

The revised no.3, 2 and 1 in that order for me Kim. I couldn't comment on the portraiture. I haven't the knowledge or experience. My choice is purely based on her expression. No. 3 is captivating.

    Re: Forest Princess C&C Welcomed

Hi Dave. Appreciate your comments. The WB is a bit warmer in #3. Yes, my artistic spin was to add the flare. My reason for adding is I wanted to soften it somewhat further and make it more artsy... in the original, she looks much older than she actually is and I knew she would not like that.

Honestly, out of all the images I have taken of people, she was the most difficult to date, as I could not get her personality to come thru; my feeling is, she really didn't want to be there, and IMO that shows.

Well I can believe that of #1, but by #2, it looks like you said something that made her drop her guard (if only momentarily) - well, that's what I'd like to think.

... and by #3, she seems more relaxed.

Yes, you are right Dave, I said something funny which made her laugh.

My comment applied more to the whole series. The shots posted were the last shots I took.

Lots of lessons learned on my part...so that's always a good thing.

Kim, your comment reminded me of one made by Manfred or possibly Bill on another thread that often an initial good number of shots are throwaways-- until the model becomes more relaxed.

Yes, I remember that and agree Bruce. One of the lessons learned was - her mom and dad were hovering... that seemed to increase her nerves. Next time, I would take her to another location (she wanted to do the images at her house as she didn't want to be embarrassed) and the two of use would have just hung out and had more fun.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Dean. Mine too for the same reason.
