I like that hand in hand shot as well, each has their own merits, nicely captured series.

    Hi Tejal,

You have found some very talented sculptors and artists here and I am indeed finding these series visually informative of your country's art and culture.

There's good light in all of them, but I guess the artists need that too (to work in/with).

    Keep 'em coming, Dave

    Thanks Dave.

This series I have captured for Indian art n culture theme. I will be highly obliged if you all help me to select some best pictures out of them .

About light, yes I found them working in very low light. Sun light they can not use, as colors n clay they have to keep away from the sun light.

They are very hard working. Every year they come all the way from Easter india to Western india during these festivals, especially to make these idols. They have expertise in making clay idols. They bring special clay to make these idols from Eastern India and mix with locally available clay. They stays here for four months. Life is really hard for them here during these four months. Most of the pictures I took today morning only and while clicking these pictures as usual I talked to them and tried to know about them. .

    Hi Tejal,

It's a bit difficult to separate the series, I see two distinct subjects: the symbolic deities and the artistry used to capture their form. You managed to combine and capture very dramatic yet subdued imagery, I say dramatic in the sense of the size of the statues and subdued in your method of presenting these scenes. Nicely done.

A very nice set. My favorites are #'s 3 & 4. I love the colors of #3 - the eyes almost look real. I also love the contrast between the artists hand and the sculpted hand in #4.

This is not at all to mean that I don't like the others. #5 shows the size of the idols in comparison to the artist and #1 shows the concentration of the sculptor...

Hmmm, that's very difficult; there is something uniquely revealing in many of them such that I would include most of them in a portfolio/exhibition.

Therefore, I can only suggest that the last one (7085) should not be included, since (for me) it has the least of interest.

OK, that's a bit negative, so here's why I like the others more (which may help you).

#1 shows the variety of sizes of idols created and the attention to detail of an artist

#2 I like for the subject composition, lighting and tonality of the B&W conversion

#3 shows the skill of the artist and is again a good composition

#4 gives of the contrasts of human vs idol, wet vs dry, large vs small and again has nice lighting

#5 shows the volume of production and scale of product (idol), again with good lighting

All have good exposure and are technically valid.

    Hope that helps, Dave

There are so much beauty in your culture...I particularly like #3 and #4. -- #3 because of the colourful way you have presented this one and despite the lack of light you were able to expose this image very well. #4 the size of the hand of the sculptor as against the image he is creating is an excellent composition here...
