I like it...if only the conversion is in question here...your subjects are almost 3D and they are very pronounced with the right edge tones...I am wondering about the girl with the dark sunglasses with the darker skin tone? I would like to see the same of her in a lighter location. I reckon darker colour skins like hers need a bit of work in conversion especially when they are with caucasians...I do not know...just my opinion...

    Hi Izzie,

Thanks for commenting, yes darker skin tones can be a problem when photographed with lighter skinned individuals, what made her tone so much darker is that she is standing in the shade.

Hi john I like the conversion, may I ask what different method you used for this conversion? I'm not very happy with the half cut heads in the FG though.

    Hi Binnur,

I changed my workflow somewhat and in LightRoom:
    1. Increased the highlights to 100
    2. Decreased the shadows to 0
    3. Increased clarity to 100
    4. Increased vibrance to 25
    5. Increased contrast to 25
    6. Did NR in LR.
    7. Did a final shadow/highlight adjustment in Elements.
    8. Increased contrast again.
    9. Sharpened and converted to black and white.

I didn't like the partial heads either and could probably crop to contain just the two ladies and disinterested guy.
    Thanks for commenting.

Thanks John . It seems that in a way you added a lot of contrast to the image

    Hi Binnur,

Yes, I don't think you can add too much contrast as long as you balance the brightness.

Yes, I would have to export the LR image and bring it into ACR.

The Lightroom develop module and its adjustment sliders are very similar to Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) some would say they are the same

    Definitely will work with ACR.

Tell me about it...I now always use a Xrite Passbook on people to insure correct skin tones.
LR and ACR algorithms are the same for developing.

Other than the user interface, the Engine running both Camera Raw and the Lightroom Develop module are identical, so identical settings will show up with identical results in these two tools.

I'll have to look into that Passbook, I use quite a few Xrite tools already.

    John,
I think it is meaningless to show a manipulated photo like this when you are explaining what post-processing you did to the original when that original is not also shown for the sake of comparison.
Also, if this is an image that you are considering keeping as opposed to it merely being an academic exercise in Post-Processing, then I'd suggest you do some serious cropping to eliminate all but the two upper people on our left and the center woman with the curly hair.

    Hi Robert,

I mentioned the possibility of cropping in post #5. Showing the original would mean I'd be presenting the color version and I didn't want to change the intent of the post, the intent in posting was to present an image using an entirely different method of post processing. Thanks for commenting.

I don't like showing the originals of my BnW conversions either John, because my goal is usually to show my interpretation of the image (how I see the image). Besides , because I usually follow your threads I can see the difference between your usual BnW conversions and this one. I think Isabel has already seen it too. Thanks again for sharing your workflow

    Hi Binnur,

Thanks for additional comments. That you and Izzie can see the difference means that my efforts are not in vain as I don't want every conversion to look the same. Thanks again.
