    Fellow passengers

I took this shot inside a commuter rail car on the Aonami Line in hopes that I might get something. These shots generally don't work all that well because the outside is much brighter than the train interior. When I opened up the shot, it was fairly decent, but the interior was still too dark, but thanks to the use of blending modes (top layers were using the screen blending mode), layer masks and my Wacom tablet, I was able to dodge much of the interior space to get a shot that seems to work quite well.

It's not an HDRI shot; it's a tad changing to get to do that when the train is moving along at around 100 km/hr (60 mph). It's done with Nik Color Efex4 with both the Tonal Contrast and Skylight filters.

It is the same train shown in this earlier posting:

Very nice! I haven't worked much with my NIK Color Efex. I see that I need to do so!

Nice image Manfred Inside of the train looks really wide. Is it because of the wide angle shot or is it so wide really. It looks so comfortable that you can place a dining table there

It's a combination of both, Binnur. I used a 14mm focal length on a full-frame camera for this shot. This was an off the hip shot (actually the camera was resting on my knees) and I had LiveView on.

The train cars were designed to have limited seating (all the seats faced the centre of the car) with plenty of standing room only. Having spent three weeks riding Japanese subways and commuter trains we found that even when it was not rush hour, the cars got quite full. While some hand hold (grab bars and supports that came down from the ceiling), during heavy traffic periods a lot of people were held up by the crowd around them

I don't know if this still happens but, at one time, the Japanese train system employed "Pushers" at crowded stations like the stations in Tokyo and Yokohama during rush hours. These guys, who all looked like sumo wrestlers, had the task of using their bulk and strength to literally push the passengers onto the crowded car stuffing a few more bodies aboard...

We saw staff on the subway platforms at busy times of the day, but no pushers. People seem to have been trained to pack in like sardines all by themselves.

I suspect a couple of things have changed since those days. More trains and subway lines are in service (and likely upgraded train signaling and control systems) seem to have smoothed out getting off and on the trains.

Very neat train...most of the shots you have of the places you visited are very neat looking like I will not have to use any hand sanitizer at all when I touch something...

Izzie - For the most part, Japan is amazingly clean. Anyone with a cold will tend to have a face mask on when out and about so as not to spread their cold to others. There are clean, public washrooms around in many places. I think many other countries / cultures could learn a thing or two from the Japanese.

Your post-processing worked really well. The light inside and outside is balanced very well, actually amazingly well considering the circumstances.
