    I have never seen a caterpillar drop a bird before


    OK, sorry, being serious; which way is it going (or coming)?

    I had decided that the head was toward us, but the bits of eaten leaf are at the other end

    Can't really fault the capture, so no suggestions to improve.

    The best guess that I have is that the head is the part coming towards us. there looks to be a mouth between the yellow spikes?
    As for caterpillars dropping birds it happens all the time. Their relationships are notoriously unstable.
    I think this is my first post you don't have suggestions on how to improve. I'm flattered.
