    The Potter

I took this shot on a recent visit to a pottery village near Pench, Madhya Pradesh. Most of the people in this village earn their livelihood making pots. It was amazing to see their skill level and the speed at which they work. Each one of them makes anywhere between 50-70 pots a day.

    C&C welcome.

    Re: The Potter

That's a very nice composition Ashish.

Probably the biggest suggestion I'd make is that the axis of rotation of the column formed by wheel and pot ought to be vertical, so I think the image needs a little rotation anti-clockwise.

Beyond that, I'd look to dodge and burn a few areas; e.g. to make his face a little more visibly defined, perhaps tone down some of the stuff at left edge.

But I still think it is a great capture.

    Hope that helps, Dave

I really like the low angle as well as the leading lines drawing attention to the potter and his work.

+1 from me Ashish but that apart, I also like the low viewpoint that includes the finished work in the composition. Tells a story.

Your shooting aspect has allowed you to both isolate the main subject & still draw us in to the scene in which he works.
I agree with the tiny rotation Dave has suggested, but it is a great eg of an environmental portrait.

Really like this image Ashish. I do agree with the others in regards to it needing a slight rotation though. It is quit amazing to me that 50-70 pots can be made in a day.

Thanks Dave .... Actually the axis is not exactly vertical when it spins.. but yes, i take your point ... from a viewers perspective it would look better if it is vertically aligned.
