    Two macro flower images

Flowers don't run away so still working on a few things and trying to practice some techniques. My ring flash arrived on Friday so used it today.

Second try at this shot. Better lighting this time but just so slightly missed the focus on those little things deep inside the flower.

I had to crop out a black blob along the bottom of this image so the crop is tighter than I wanted. This flower is less than a centimeter wide.

I think you are referring to the anthers--the structures that are covered in and release pollen.

The first shows f/0.0. Does that mean it was taken with an extension tube? (I shoot Canon, and with Kenko tubes, the nominal aperture is reported even with the tubes, so I didn't know the answer to your earlier question.) What was the aperture setting?

The second is much better than the first, IMHO. The first has almost nothing in focus. If it was close to minimum working distance with a tube, that would make sense. Tubes get more magnification by letting you get closer, and that translates into even less depth of field.

    First image was F11, 1/30, ISO 250

    Second image was F11 also.

How does one check camera settings on a posted image?

I use Fxif, an add-on for Firefox. However, some websites strip the exif data when you link to images. Smugmug, where I keep my images, is one of them.

I can recommend Fxif too. It is a great add-on for evaluating images where people ask why they have a problem for some reason.

Ah cool, I downloaded it, works great, thanks.
Wish macro shots were this easy.
