Some images of the town of Tiradentes, also shot during my recent trip to the area. The name Tiradentes is due to the man who was born in the area and started the national Independence movements. Tiradentes was hanged in 1792, his body was quartered into several pieces. With his blood, a document was written declaring his memory infamous. His head was publicly displayed and pieces of his body were exhibited in the cities between Vila Rica and Rio de Janeiro to terrorize the populace and those who had sympathized with Tiradentes' ideas of independence. The day of his death is still a national holliday. C&C welcomed. Thanks for viewing.
1 - An old drinking fountain
2 - The Main church (Matriz de Santo Antônio). People are not allowed to take pictures inside this church. There is a huge amount (near half a Ton!) of gold applied over the incredibly detailed sculptures. Also, there is a pipe organ from the 18th century. They say only 15 of its kind were manufactured, in Portugal, and this is possibly one of the last still working. They play it every friday night (20:00h).
