    Whistling heron - Syrigma sibilatrix

Hi. Changing from old architectural to birds, I am sharing some images of a Whistling heron. Although this is a south american heron, it is the first time I have the chance to see one. So, although it is listed as LC (lest concern), they are not as common as the great egret or the great blue heron. I hope you like this beautiful bird! C&C welcomed. Thanks for viewing.

Wow, that is a beautiful heron, Otavio. IMO the first image is the best of the set due to the excellent detail. The BG is a bit messy in the first three. The flight shot achieved better bokeh due to the distance of the BG relative to the bird. Looks like your ss may have been a bit low for the BIF. Thanks for sharing this lovely bird that I've never seen before.

A beautiful bird Otavio I like all images, I would reduce the brightness of the BG in the first image as it distracts a bit.IMO a BG similar to the one in #3 looks better.

A pity about the distracting background in #1, as Binnur, mentioned. Still good though.

Although #2 has a lot of potential background complication I think it works well and looks natural. Maybe crop a fraction from the top and right side to put more, or equal, space in front of the bird instead of behind it?

Thanks, Geoff, for viewing and commenting. Backgrounds are really a challenge when shooting animals in the wild. I had no more than some seconds at a decent distance to take the shots before it flew away (last shot). It gave me no time enough to search for a better angle/cleaner background (unfortunately).

    Regards,

    Hi Otávio,

Good to see you posting again.

I'm another person that's never seen such a colourful Heron before.

As you say, with wildlife, we rarely get a choice of background and have to take what's there.
You could possibly do some blurring in PP with the sharpest leaves (below the chest) in #1, perhaps also in #3.

Did you sharpen the whole image, or selectively? If not selectively, that may help.

    Never-the-less, a good series.

    Thanks, Dave

This is the first time I have ever really seen a colourful bird like this one...and my first thoughts were the sharpness. Excellent shots. How far were you from the bird? Can you please give me the EXIF? Thanks.

    Hello,
When viewing your photographs I based on composition and color tones do like your #3 and 4. They are lovely to view. It is an achievement to capture a bird during its flight.

    Well crafted!

LC ?? I am living in the wrong part of the world. I too have never seen one and what a beauty it is.

Some excellent points already mentioned above so no point repeating.

Excellent series, sharp where sharp needs to be (bif excepted. hehe). Well done.

I will leave alone the never ending discussion about clean backgrounds and backgrounds that show the animal in its true environment.
