Through an Old Window

This scene caught my eye while I was tinkering around inside the calving shed. I'm looking out through a window in a door. In order to get the exposure outside correct, I lost all detail in the door. So I'm not even sure the viewer would understand what this picture is about. My grandparents, who undoubtedly have seen this view a million times, will understand immediately, but does it just look like a really bad frame to everyone else? I'm looking forward to some totally honest answers here! Thanks,

Welcome back to CiC, Kristy...I like what I am seeing here but I feel it needs straightening...I mean the image outside the window. The windows really looks old and has a natural vignette. 'Must be really a good day outside.

One like this is a candidate for blending two images together - one exposed for outside and the other exposed for inside. This is what I did with this a few years ago. But you don't want to go too far with the inside exposure or it looks really artificial. Just let a hint of detail show through

Nice concept, the viewer perhaps could see this as a view through a car window, perhaps an angular view of the field would be more appropriate and more dynamic.

I can understand why it looks like it needs straightening, but actually the scene outside has a pretty good slope. So, it's actually pretty accurate as is. Unless you're familiar with this location, you wouldn't know that, though.

Thanks Donald. That's an excellent idea. I wish I had thought of that at the time I shot this image. I guess I could always try again for the inside of the door, and see how close I can get to the same angle.... Thanks for sharing an example! That's super helpful.

I think it's awesome. I suspect that photographers are more understanding about the dark area. For others Donald's idea is a good one.
