    Glass Barn Door

    Glass Barn Door

I am conflicted about this image. I like the reflections in the windows and the texture of the peeling paint. But overall I find it rather cluttered. (And this is after being very careful to exclude as many distracting elements as possible while setting up the shot!) I guess when there is just a lot of stuff handing around an old barn, it's bound to look pretty cluttered. What do other people's eyes see here?
    Thanks,
    Kristy

It is cluttered, Kristy, that's what I find most appealing. The reflections in the glass add another layer of color and form to the overall image.

I see reality and based on the amount of clutter I'm surprised there aren't any broken windows. Additionally, the panes are relatively clean, so someone must have a sense of order about the place. Image definitely creates a story but with no additional information; there are no answers to be attained from the composition.

Thanks Dean. I, too, especially liked the windows.

Thanks for commenting, John. You're right, there's certainly order to the whole place, but a type of order that only the farmer understands! My grandfather takes good care of the place, but I suppose things "you just might need down the road" have to be put somewhere, and there's just not much room left inside any of the buildings. Reality is exactly what I'm trying to capture in my photgraphing of their place, but in such a way that the beauty of what's there can shine through. It's a fun challenge.

I am glad you find shooting this image a challenge. I like it very much. It looks old but not that old -- all those treasured stuffs are so valuable in the old times, the drums, the pile of metals...I've been through that when we were clearing Dad's shed when he moved on to greener pastures, it brings a lot of memories.

It looks a lot better and less cluttered when viewed at full screen size.

Thanks Izzie. I bet you've also heard the "Use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without" saying! I'm reminded of my grandfather saying that whenever I'm wandering around out there and come upon cluttered scenes like this one. I think there's a lot my generation could learn from those before us... Anyway, thanks for commenting!
