Steve - it looks like a fun shot, but the harsh shadows, especially on the face really take away from the image.

I know that with these types of shots, you get what you get because you happen to be there with the camera at the time and you can't choose your location, but shooting in a shaded would have fixed that issue.

Have you ever considered shooting from a lower viewpoint?

Lie on the floor and get him to jump over you as you shoot perhaps?

He will look as if he is jumping higher if you get your background and the moment correct.
