    Bird on a Wire

I was driving along a back road yesterday when I spotted this bird perched on a telephone cable. I quickly got the camera out of the trunk(boot across the pond) and managed to get these two shots before spooking it off. This is my first bird of prey and would appreciate if someone could identify it for me.

    #1 - f10 1/500 sec 250mm
    Bird on a Wire

    #2 - f10 1/320 sec 250mm
    Bird on a Wire

both shots taken with 55-250mm kit lens.

    As usual C & C welcomed.

Most probably it is broad-winged hawk (Buteo platypterus).

The wire on the diagonal is a nice touch. Perhaps a pity about he branches but WTH, this is nice capture and well exposed against a bright sky.

    Thank you Izzie,

I think that you and Fernando are right. I looked up the broad-winged hawk and they are smaller than the bird I shot.

    Thanks John,

The branches don't bother me. They would be easy to clone out.

Very stocky looking legs like a Red Shouldered or Red Tail.
