    Dusk - Moonrise (Portentous)

When I saw this, I starting humming Jefferson Starship's 'All Fly Away' - 'Three birds watching from a rock...' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rY_nquw3iok ). C&C welcome.

I like it - pleasant soft tones.

Reminds me of last year when I was in a car park on the coast at Bulli NSW with my Grandson who was using my old D200 to take some photographs. I was disappointed we had not seen any pelicans but just as we were about to get back in the car we saw them all perched above us on the light stands exactly as in your shot.

What a nice find, Greg...I love the composition very much...if this is black and white and a little bit on the hazy side, I'd say you've captured a "Donald" image...

I was impressed by the variation of colors in the sky.... do you have any next moment's shot with more detailed silhouette of the bird?

    Thanks, Paul.

This is when a little bit of local knowledge pays off. We have erected hundreds of these pelican foot-warmers along the coastal strip of the beach suburbs. We justify the cost to the public by putting a little light underneath them. If you arrive around dusk, especially in winter, you'll see the pelicans jostling for the best spot on the best post.

Thanks Izzie, that's a flattering comment.

It was the triangle in the sky that took my attention - moon, pelican and lamp post - and that song.

Thanks, Nandakumar. I didn't focus any closer on the bird. I see them all the time, so in this instance my only interest in it was as an anchor point for the triangle in the sky. I could probably lighten it a bit to show a little more detail there.

Fabulous image! However, the one thing that I notice is that the moon has an odd shape. I'm not knowledgeable about the moon so the shape in the photo may be perfectly normal.

Thanks Mike. That moon is about a day or two before a full moon so it is slightly less than round. Speaking as a lunatic, it looks normal to me.
