    Punt Gun for C&C

I have taken this shot from the Alton Visitor Center recently when we came in to have our Eagle card initialed by the volunteer on site...in exchange for a free Eagle Watching T-shirt...but that is another story.

While Bill was talking to the lady, I was looking around the place and saw this gun and marvelled at how long it is...and why there are fake dead ducks in a bag...this is the gun (sorry...a bit too orangy I think...)

    Punt Gun for C&C

and this is part of it...which interested me...the hammer

    Punt Gun for C&C

and this is the explanation...the lady was generous enough to let me move the description where I can photograph it properly...I put it on the floor as I had my 105mm with me when I got out of the car...so I guess that cuts my having to explain what a punt gun is..

Thank you very much for viewing and commenting...
    Cheers...and Happy Days!

Nice images, why not convert to sepia on the first image?

Hi Isabel . I would try a different shooting angle for the first image to present it better. Although there are some blurred parts in the second shot , I like it. Increasing the structure and contrast a bit more might work for the image but it is difficult to say without seeing. I also like the story, thanks for sharing.

I thought about it, John...thanks for commenting and the suggestion. I will do it first thing in the morning before I go for my operation so I can still think straight...

There is no other shooting angle I can find in that small building...if I tried another angle, the old stove will not allow for me to show down to the end of the gun...it was one way or no way...there was barely any space at all in that itty-bitty room -- you know the kind...one step from the outside, you are inside. Inside occupies a small space for an "office" setting...then the wall. I like the structure of the second shot so I decided to shoot the first one to show what it looks like. You can catch a glimpse of the stove at the right hand corner I was trying to blur but failed miserably...

Thanks Binnur for passing by and commenting and the suggestion...I appreciate it very much.

Yes...I agree...thanks for the laughs. I think they sort of curtail how many you can take home now and that punt gun is not used anymore...and btw, I heard from the lady that it is only a replica. The original is located in the home up the hills about 5 minutes from where we were. The owner's relations still live and maintain those two beautiful houses overlooking the Mississippi(?) River.

My immediate thought on finishing reading the display card was that now I know where that statement on restaurant menus "may contain nuts" originated

Surely a quick tap of 'Auto WB' (in ACR) was possible to better correct the WB issues?

Never-the-less; I have been educated today, thank you, Dave

Very interesting. I bet the gun was loud based on its size. - Sam

First thing I thought of when viewing the image was, what happens if that plug in the end comes out?

Nice shot Izzie. Hope your operation goes according to plan.

Wonder how far backwards the boat moves when they fired that thing. Nice images Izzie.

High, Izzie. My thoughts were similar to Binnur. Understanding the constraints you're dealing with, even a slightly different angle that shows more of the hammer mechanism would be advantageous.

    Hope all goes well.

That was my favourite too but I have to show the whole thing and it wasn't that easy because of the tightness of the room and the angle hoping I'd won't take a shot of the stove nearby instead...

Thanks Dave for your comments. 'Appreciate it very much.

I have to postpone it. I need to as I am scared of needles. My doctor-relations from the past traumatized me when we had a tumble from our motorbikes when I was about 18 years old and one of them treated me and another cousins in the garage so that the oldies will not know we went out on that school night before exams. Thanks for the concern.
