    A Closer Look

As I mentioned in my other thread, I've been having a little bash at 'Street'

I'm finding it tough going... because for me, street should actually have something to say... if it doesn't, then IMO it's reportage, and reportage is great, but it's not street!

Anyway, I discounted this image as street, but Omi (just me) asked me to share it, and I've a lot of time for Omi, for not only have I seen her excellent shots on EMS for many years, it was also she who recommended CiC to me!

    So here you are Omi

Hi Adam......the image say's a lot IMO, the man stopped to have a closer look......this is street photography, and I think, not only for this image, but many others from you show you have a very good eye for street photography....I truly mean this !!!!!!!

First look at this image.....I loved it straight away.......I even was thinking to myself * why I never find a motive like this *

    Greetings,
    Omi- Griddi .......

Adam, nicely seen and captured! I like the repetition of the windows and the strong diagonal of the hill. And yes, this is street photography. Maybe a little stronger composition cropping the arch from the right side.

Way to go to Omi for recommending that you join us here at CiC and for recommending that you display this absolutely marvelous photo. The perspective and composition including the reflection of the man are superb.

If possible, try to increase the display of detail in the man's clothing, as I see a hint of folds in the fabric indicating that there is more interesting detail to be revealed. If this was mine, especially considering that I like tight crops, I would crop the right side to eliminate IDE-SE, as that part of the image is a bit distracting to me. After having made that crop, if the man isn't ideally positioned, I wouldn't hesitate to also crop a bit off the left side; the entire foreground poster does not need to be displayed in my mind.

I agree with ALL of Mike's comments about this image with a minor niggle on the crop. I would crop to remove the edge of the background arch and a little bit on the bottom leaving the whole right hand sign in the fame.

Either way it is a very nice image and I join Mike in welcoming you to CiC.

Nicely done and it also suggests a sense of danger, I doubt I'd be so calm on that slant.

    Re: A Closer Look

Thanks very much for all the comments, I really appreciate them.

I've lifted the shadows on the jacket and...

...this one has a different crop... I'm not that smitten myself... but it is as suggested by a few of you....

I struggle with crop... I seldom shoot over 50mm... but when I do crop, I like to keep an accepted aspect ratio... and that doesn't always work...

    A Closer Look

This one is more of a free hand crop (jeeez !!!) but it's more of how I expected it to look

(same lifted shadows as the other image in this post)

Thanks very much Binnur, when it's finished, "finished" I'll replace the flick one with this one, your fav will carry over

I'm still struggling with the detail in the jacket... I think my laptop screen is too bright, as things always look a lot better there than on my iPad..

Thanks Tony, I think the last go (at a crop) was the happy medium, as too tight seemed to look somehow contrived...

Also losing the first poster didn't work IMO as that gives us a clue what the old guy is looking at!

    Re: A Closer Look

Adam , I think because your IPad's screen is smaller than your laptop's screen it is normal to see the jacket with less detail there because of downsizing. The details on the jacket seems visible enough to me in your last edit but you might as well upload another version with some more detail on the jacket for comparison, if you want

    Re: A Closer Look

Increasing the detail in the clothing did wonders for me. I think the last version looks fine. However, if using a standard size is important and if that last one isn't standard, consider a square crop.

There is enough detail for me in the last edit in my desktop. I have a 27" screen beside a 24"...This is really finished as it is...Nicely caught, Adam...

    Re: A Closer Look

Nice work Adam! I like the last cropped version very much. It's amazing what a little crop and a few minor adjustments will do and how difficult it is to see that once you have looked at an image for so long...good on you for sticking with it!
