    Out of Africa......

I will be a bit busy this week, but would like show you quickly my little wooden zebra bowl, which came from Africa.......

I am not completely happy with the light shining on the back of the zebra, but......

    Out of Africa......

Just out of curiosity, what is the granular material on the tabletop?

If a polarizer will eliminate the glare on the zebra, that will be the easiest way to fix it. However, a polarizer probably won't work. The one way to ensure that the glare is not produced is to move your light sources so they are outside the family of angles.

Mike.......I put the bowl on the carpet.........I sort of shifted the bowl around to get rid of the glare, as I noticed it already then......but got impatient .....not good........I will be very busy this week, but will try again next week to get a better image with a bit more patience

    Thanks for your input,

Griddi - Try closing the window blinds, using a tripod and making a long exposure of it. Crank that aperture down to f16 or so.

I am SO embarrassed. I only spent about 20 years selling carpet. Apparently that wasn't enough time to recognize that the material in your photo is carpet.

Apparently your light source is the sun. I mentioned in an earlier post that one way, the surefire way, is to move the light source so it is not in the family of angles. Now that I realize the situation, you need to move the subjects to ensure that the light source is not in the family of angles. The other method is to light your subjects using reflectors, in which case that alone might eliminate glare. Even if all of the glare is not removed, you can move the reflectors to eliminate it.

The reason I mention this is that the conventional method of putting total control in your hands is to first determine the ideal composition and then light it to enhance everything you had in mind. If that can be done using the sun and reflectors, that's fine. Otherwise, you will need to use manufactured light sources.

Mike...thanks a lot with your explanation......next week when I have more time I will try again, perhaps even buy in the meantime a small reflector, as I don't have any of this kind, perhaps one which can be folded .....could use something like this anyway.........

    Griddi,
Put a crease down the middle, or just rest them on anything that is about and movable books are good.

Nice shot, Griddi -- you already got a lot of good advice so I will not dump any more from here. I like your little zebra...it can very well fit inside that bowl. How cute...

Hi Izzie....thank you for your comment.......I liked the bowl on first sight......but if you look close you will notice, that the zebra is sort of molded into the bowl, that is either the bowl is around the zebra, or the zebra around the bowl....they cannot be separated..if you know what I mean?

    Take care,

If you want a larger single surface rather than a V-shaped reflector, make a crease close to the right and left sides of the card. If your carpet is thick enough, you will be able to shove the card into the fiber to make it stand up without having to crease it.
