    Looking Up

I thought this photo captured an unusual perspective and patterns so I thought I'd post it here for any feedback or suggestions.

Great idea Sam, I like them both but love the processing on the colour version.

    Nice work

Looking up is a great idea. I gets you images that others miss and walk by. While the B&W conversion is nice, I find that it doesn't work for me, as the view is already rather abstract and monochrome adds an additional layer of abstraction that hinders, rather than helps the viewer, in this case.

Thanks Manfred, agree with you on the B&W.

I like both very much, but the colours and interplay of light in the first image makes it my favourite. Really nicely processed.

Terrific concept executed perfectly! For me, the cool colors of the sky juxtaposed with the warm colors of the land make that version look luscious and help define the abstract characteristic of the curved line formed where the sky meets the land. The monochrome version loses all of that and, thus, doesn't work for me at all.

Thanks Simon, the colour photo is also the favorite of the two for me.

Thanks for the complements on the color version. I agree with your comments regarding the B&W.

    Re: Looking Up

    I too prefer the color.

An excellent shot, but like John, it made me feel dizzy. I think it is because of the mass at the top. I tried rotating it both 90 degrees clockwise and 180 degrees, and in both cases, it was less dizzying that way.

Sorry to make you guys feel dizzy as that was not my intent :-). I experimented with rotating it and I also like this version which I have also removed the blue from the clouds.

    Re: Looking Up

One of the primary attributes of the first version is that makes us feel dizzy. I can't imagine why you would remove that element, but that's just my way of looking at things.

Excellent image, Sam...very dizzy-ing effect. Did you lie down on a tarp to get this shot? I need a headache tablet...

No, I just pointed the camera up. Thanks for the complement!

I think this perspective is interesting too, in fact, it can be rotated another 90 degrees. But I am with you, my favorite perspective is the original.

Agree. The portrait orientation makes me more dizzy. The cold grey sky contrasts with warm colours of the vegetation and changes the feel of the image. I like both colour versions. Not sure about the B&W though...
