A good result in very difficult circumstances Trev,
Keeping the focus point on a flying bird is hard enough, but with a distant sky behind, the AF generally retains lock even if the AF point wanders off the bird momentarily.
However, try that when they are flying amongst trees and it's a whole different matter, the AF may try to follow the small distance changes and we can often end up with a nice sharp tree.
So, well done!
Dave
Well done, nicely captured.
Thank you to Dave and both Johns! I use spot metering and focus so I tagged a place between branches that I expected the bird to fly through and got lucky.
funny that, the more you practice and plan and set up with a bit of thought - the luckier you get
nice shot, its definitely pegged you and is playing hide and seek
Good one, Trev...You must have a calm mind being to make that decision quickly while the bird was flying. I wonder how I'd do that!!! Now I know what I am lacking -- attitude.
Izzie I seriously doubt that you lack attitude! Your zeal for photography is inspiring. It took me a while to watch the bird's flight pattern and see that it was doing a circuit: it was looking for fish in the stream I was beside. As to the shot - I was trained in the army to use a Self Loading Rifle to anticipate a target's path: this other kind of (much preferred) SLR is easier to draw a bead with.
That is great
