Late to this post but here I am wanting to try that kind of photography too! I was trying it on a little glass a while back but I cannot get it as sharp, maybe the crystal ball is better like yours. Excellent shot, excellent idea.
"I was trying it on a little glass." I'm not quite sure what that means? I know that some people have tried with smaller crystal balls (30-50mm) and gotten pretty good results. My ball is 80mm and cost around $15 on Amazon.
As far as clarity, I put my focus point on the center of the ball and used an aperture of F/4.0 with a 35mm lens. In Photoshop Camera Raw I boosted the clarity all the way up for that darker, grittier effect and then flipped the image in the ball since it's upside down normally. I have all my settings on display with my Flickr account if you wanna see them. They should be displayed below each photo. Hope that helps, and thanks for looking!
Great idea, very cool images Zak
They usually are upside down through these balls, how are u getting the right-side up?
Really enjoyed see these, thanks and more please
