I sure do like how the cool tones of the rocks so nicely complement the warm tones of the sunlight. The detail in the water is very revealing and has a natural appearance.

This is more like your typical work, Matt. I had looked at the other image a couple of times trying to decide what to say about it. While the other one was well composed it lacked any sort of dramatic component that you normally manage to come up with. This one has bold lighting, the sunset, some great clouds, the breaking wave, and the bold rocks in FG. A far superior image IMO. Nicely done.

I was lucky with this one Dan, only had a few minutes until the sun went down and trying to time it with the waves as well.

I switched the camera to CH mode and just let rip

I'd call that knowing how to utilize your kit to achieve the image that you had in mind. Nicely done.

    Re: Waves

Composition is fine, color combination is a bit unsettling with so much blue in the foreground.

Thanks Binnur, no I used Nik HDR Efex

I didn't mean to use it, I wanted the RAW Sharpener but I clicked the wrong one and when it popped up it looked pretty good so I went with it

    Re: Waves

Well, if this is a HDR image, you must have used more than one exposure. Am I right or wrong?

Matt, the colours in the foreground are very blue and I agree with John, a bit unsettling. That is only my opinion,
    Cheers Ole

    Re: Waves

Great picture Matt. Like Dan, I prefer this to your other shots of this beach as everything works together. It would be simple to dial out some of the foreground blue if you wanted to, but I don't think it detracts myself - it shows how much of this is personal opinion I guess!

    Re: Waves

I like this one, Matt -- my first view was the foreground leading to the receding water, then the surf, going upwards so to me, it is such a beautiful composition leading the eyes ... good matching colours too.

    Re: Waves

That really is very nice Matt. Good work. I might be tempted to take out some of the blue and cyan from the stones but that is not so much a crit as personal preference.

    Re: Waves

I like the blue foreground and the generally bold colours. I wonder whether there is more colour to be drawn out in the breaking wave ??
