Like others have said, that is a superb image. Excellent control of a challenging lighting situation.

I have nothing to add except to offer my congratulations - that's another stunner Sergio. Great picture.
I wouldn't worry too much, Sergio, about which (if any) *rule* you broke. Your intuition knew what it was doing. If I were you I'd concentrate on that intuition and not worry about the *rules*. Great shot in all respects.
Quick question; were you set up for zone focusing? Auto ISO?
Thank you, Jack. I agree about intuition. Things do seem to work out better when I follow it.
Yes, in most cases I do have the 40 mm lens set to zone focus which at f/8.0 and a focus distance of 10 feet give me acceptable sharpness between around 7 feet to 18 feet. This is a comfortable distance for me when I'm out on the street. I also manually set my ISO as low as possible but one which will also keep my shutter speed in most cases above 1/300, depending of course on the lighting conditions. It does however vary up or down some and I do adjust on the fly. I also change to hyperfocal distance if things are farther than the upper limit of my zone focus.
In this case, however, I had opened up to f/5.6 and set my iso to 1600. This was giving me a shutter speed of about 1/60 or higher depending on what I was pointing at. I also set my focus ring for f/5.6 to hyperfocal distance which gave me an effective dof between 15 feet and infinity. I felt this was the best compromise for getting things somewhat close or farther away since there were wide open spaces in the gallery. I also felt the shutter speed was enough to get photos of paintings and people just standing about. What I wasn't expecting was some fast movement which I did get. I'm working on one photo in particular which ended up with blur, but I really like the way it turned out.
In the future I will probably set my iso higher and or experiment with a wider aperture.
I hope that answers your question.

Nicely done, Sergio.
As a reaction shot, that couldn't really have worked out better Sergio. That's a great capture.
