Clarification for both Dan and Mike.
In NZ if you live in a rural community you will have received so many shocks from electric stock fencing that you no longer notice. The city dwellers are so tolerant that nothing shocks them. Due to these factors using shock therapy in NZ has been a dismal failure and abandoned along with the electric chair. The elderly can be seen zooming around on mobility chairs which can easily be (but should not be) mistaken for electric chairs.
