Hiking Big House Mountain (image intensive)

Big House Mountain in Rockbridge Viriginia is a ~15 minute drive from my home. Although we've lived here about year, this was our first hike to the top (5.5 hours r/t). Big House Mountain is in the foreground below with Little House Mountain behind it. A point of rocks can be seen on the right side (southwest side) of the mountain. These rocks are seen up close in the second, third and fourth photos.

I'd like to hear what you think as always. All shot taken with N-D750 with 24-120 Nikor lens.

Big House Mountain, shot taken from North Mountain Rockbridge Virginia:

Hiking companions: (actually the goat lives on the mountain top)

And finally, Little House Mountain looking at the northeast end. A hike for another day.

    Thanks for viewing.

Nice series, I like the shot of you on the rocks.

An interesting set of photos. It looks like the air was clear so very little haze.

It seems something went wrong with the last photo. It's a collage of a kissing couple, no Little House Mountain anywhere to be seen. I wonder if Tinypics is again playing random tricks--that's been a problem in the past.

    An interesting series Sam,

With regard to the last photo, I am currently (some 8 hours after Bruce) seeing the correct image, but I am in UK, which can make a difference.

Not sure I'd trust myself to perch 'out there' myself

Thanks Bruce - The air was pretty clear. We usually have a lot of haze from the humidity. I'm seeing the correct image on the last one.

Thanks Dave. The perch was pretty safe.

I see the correct image here as well Sam. Nice set of images. I'm impressed by the five and a half hours (and presumably, almost the same going back)

Thanks John. I think perhaps I was a little heavy on the vivid slider in LR. Perhaps I'll grow out of that. The hiking time was for the round-trip, still a good aerobic workout.

I like all these, Sam. Really nice view points.
I know my wife and I would really enjoy hiking that sometime.

You're welcome anytime although once it gets warm and humid it might be a little hard going. It was ~60 degrees F on this day which was perfect for hiking. Thanks for the complements.

It isn't the perch that worries me, it would be my (in?)ability to get out to it, or back from it, safely - with me not having the greatest co-ordination or balance.

I was pretty useless at any sport in school - and adding 50 years hasn't improved it
Think I'd be OK with the hike though.

I'm now seeing the correct final picture. It was well worth waiting for!
