    Jump Mountain

This is the eastern side of Jump Mountain in Rockbridge, VA. I'm guessing it got its name from its shape because I did not see it move the whole time I was there. I was trying to capture this rural scene best I could. Post processing was done in LR. Your thoughts are appreciated.

A good scene, Sam, but somehow something seems to be lacking from having a true 'wow' factor.

I wonder about fractionally cropping the bottom so that line of trees becomes the foreground which leads you into the distance?

To my way of looking at this scene the trees appear to occupy something in the way of 'middle distance ground' which distracts from the hillside?

Also, are some of the clouds slightly over exposed on the highlights?

Another thought, how about a slight crop from the sky, leaving the foreground as it is now. I think my 'problem' is chiefly about having the horizon half way up the vertical image size which appears to split the scene into two?

This is such a nice landscape! Agree with Geoff on the crop on the bottom. I find the vignette a bit much in the sky and the clouds oppressively heavy. They take all my attention when the mountain and lovely hills are worthy of a good look. Using selective color one can also enhance the magenta in the mid distance so it adds to the scene a little more. Getting a little more detail into the top of the mountain would round out the changes I would make if it were my image. But it is not my image and you have done a nice job of capturing an interesting part of the world!

Hi Sam. IMO the sky is overpowering the beauty of the mountains and trees, so I would lessen the effect of it. Also a little crop from the FG might improve the image. Very nice scene

I agree with Binnur about the sky and also it lacks depth for me.

Lots and lots of potential in this one! I especially like the comments about the overpowering sky (both because of its size and style of post-processing). Any change I would make would be to ensure that the many layers in the image are enhanced. By my count, there are six layers. Way to go!

Geoff, thanks for your insightful comments. I believe the location has 'wow' factor potential I just need to keep at it to capture its full potential. I agree that some of the clouds are over exposed but for this rendition it was personally acceptable. I plan to apply your suggestions to an update or a retake soon. Thanks again.

I like the rolling hills with the gentle variations in tone which guide the eye into the distance. If anything might need changing it would be the sky as others have mentioned. You have captured a really beautiful serene scene here.

Thanks Judith, I agree with all of your suggestions and observations. I have nothing but excuses so I will not bore you with them except to say I did notice the lack of detail in the trees and there was an excessive amount of blue haze in the raw file. The good news is that the mountain is not going anywhere so I plan to give it another go soon.

Thanks Binnur. I think I can lessen the effect of the sky. I will try and post a update.

I'm glad someone caught my dry attempt at humor.
