A Feather Boa on two legs

Not the brightest of days. A bit more light would have been welcome.

    Fuji x plus 100-400mm.

    Nice John,

I have never got this close to an Egret, I hadn't noticed how monochrome they are in the fleshy/beaky parts before.

    Tricky exposure well handled.

    Cheers, Dave

But more light would probably have caused a loss of feather detail, John.

I prefer to photograph them under slightly overcast skies then bring up a bit of extra brightness, selectively applied, during editing.

You are right I Geoff. It is what I have had to do and on reflection, the light was slightly in front of me and that would have made for a more difficult exposure/PP.

Great picture, John, I guess they are now in breeding plumage.

It fooled me at first though. Clearly a little egret, but they are supposed to have yellow feet. Then I looked a bit closer, and I think it's been wading through mud!

I forgot to add my thanks to all for commenting in my previous post, so thanks to all.

Thanks Dave. Yes, a spring tide pushed all the bird life close in and much was left muddy, including me.

Lovely bird. The lighting made it much easier to protect the highlights. Nicely done.

The editing is excellent. Yes I think this is the time of the year when the breeding plumes are more pronounced. I still remember their dance only too well at the bird sanctuary here in Missouri. Beautiful bird. Beautiful shot!

Thanks Izzie. I must admit that I haven't seen them dance yet. It would be nice to capture a couple of them doing a pas de deux.
