I remember as a child I used to see people queuing to use phone boxes like this.

They are more or less completely redundant now, with the majority of the UK population embracing the mobile phone craze.

Great juxtaposition. I like the tilt; it adds tension. The phone booth certainly looks a little worse for wear, and the wi-fi carved into the booth and the woman holding what appears to be a cell phone add to your theme of redundancy. The lighting works well for the mood and contrast. Well seen and processed.

Matt, this is one of those shots that, years from now will be an excellent example of the hegemony of cell phones over land lines.

Cell phone -- a communication device invented by scientists who wants to make sure no one is going to be left alone hell again. I like the graffiti on the phone booth, kinda cute -- but I am wondering if that person is really a man or a woman. Phone booths are now redundant -- except at the arrival section of international airport in Australia.

In the US, just as cell phones were really taking off, the same guy who invented the internet championed legislation to put phone booths "on every corner". The legislation passed and was funded by adding a tax of a couple of dollars per month to the bill of every phone no. in the country. Of course the phone booths are mostly gone now but the tax lives on.
