Really nice shot.
Dave
I don't but it is pretty...just a bit oversaturated for me, Griddi...

Really nice image Griddi. I have no idea what it is, it obviously likes shade and with the bell shaped flower pointing upwards it grows where it doesn't rain too much.
Griddi, it did not make much difference. Maybe leave it as is because it might really be the colour and I am forcing you to change it just because it doesn't suit me...that flower will hate it for being"politically correct", colour wise.
Hi Dicky.......thank you, apart that the flower was in a Botanic pavilion, there is not that much chance the flower will get much rain here in S.A. ........
Greetings,
Griddi.......
Izzie.......I had to laugh about your comment * politically correct * it was worth a try to tone down the saturation, but I agree it did not make that much difference anyway, apart that the flower was naturally quite colourful......
Hope you are well........
Griddi........
Good job, Griddi.
Has almost a somber quality like an old oil painting.
I do like RawTherapee for flower work and was able to restore your original 'pop' with some RT trickery:
Increased L*a*b* Chromaticity (similar to but not same as Saturation).
Increased Exposure Compensation a bit.
Returned Black Level after lightening.
Added Contrast By Level Details in the smaller detail sizes but reduced in the larger sizes.
Added RL De-convolution sharpening.
Sorry about messing with your image . . .

Ted.....big thank you !!!!!!!
Just so kind of you to spend your time on this image.......it looks much better now, but I do not have RAWTherapee, although I have heard of it, but I will google it to find out more of it.........
Again Ted....many thanks........
Greetings
Griddi.......
Griddi,
Here's a link to what RawTherapee does:
http://50.87.144.65/~rt/w/index.php?title=
If you don't have RawTherapee, most of the steps I listed can perhaps be found in your stuff:
Increased L*a*b* Chromaticity (similar to but not same as Saturation):
If you have PhotoShop, I believe you can play with Lab setting (Lightness, Chroma) there. In the GIMP, you can split an image into 3 layers of Lightness, a-plane and b-plane then mess with the layers separately but that way is totally non-intuitive
Increased Exposure Compensation a bit:
Any editor can do that, of course.
Returned Black Level after lightening:
Any, if not all, editors have a Levels option.
Added Contrast By Level Details in the smaller detail sizes but reduced in the larger sizes:
A bit more tricky but I'm pretty sure that Photoshop/ACR have equivalent actions.
Added RL de-convolution sharpening:
This kind of sharpening is good for very slightly un-focused areas or areas slightly blurred by diffraction. It can be found as part of good sharpening plug-ins and also comes in when adjusting the ACR detail slider towards the right.
Having said that, your original shot looked fine from those aspects anyways . .

Ted...that was beautiful! You really did brought back the pop in the flower there...excellent editing. (If I type this 'editing' word again and goes on another three times wrong spelling, I will cut my fingers.. or worst, go back to bed!!!)
With me; it is "taht" that gets me nearly everytime, plus "soemthing" is another oen
Hi Griddi,
I think somewhere between your two attempts would be better, e.g. a bit like Ted's version.
With regard to what it is, you might try e-mailing your picture to the Botanic garden and asking them, I have always found visitor attractions quite amenable to answering 'technical' questions instead of their run-of-the-mill 'when do you open?' queries.
If you don't know an e-mail address and cannot find one on their website, try info@theirwebsiteurl
Cheers, Dave
Hi Ted,
many BIG THANK YOU'S again........I had a quick look at the link, and have bookmarked the link, as I liked what I did see and read....I also bookmarked your suggestions ........
I use Lightroom..but I think, there is also * room * for RAWTherapee, I will look into this definitely further, and will the download RAWTherapee, always better to have two editing program's .........
Ted....thank you again for taking out your time to help, and also your kind words...........
Greetings,
Griddi....
Dave.....THANK YOU.....I will try again to get this flower right .......
Your suggestion to e-mail the Botanic Garden re the name of the flower, is perfect........I am sure I will have no problem to find out the e-mail address, there is only here in little Adelaide one Botanic Garden anyway just will google it, or even it is in the phone book too .......Thank you for your help ........
Greetings,
Griddi.........
