When a dog is spayed at a young age, there is a very minor incision needed, leading to a minuscule scar. This makes it difficult to ascertain whether the dog has been spayed, later in life. The tattoo prevents a later vet especially a shelter vet if the dog has been lost or turned in to a shelter, to ascertain whether a psay has been done. The tattoo prevents an unnecessary surgery.
