Syncing to Amazon Cloud Storage

Recently I've started using the unlimited storage for photos i have available (via amazon prime) on the amazon cloud drive, using this as a backup to what is on my HDD. Unfortunately, there is no option to automatically sync specified folders - either you have to manually upload individual folders or pictures or you have to delete the old folder and replace in its entirety. Neither is a good approach to doing something you want to do regularly. I'm wondering if anyone is using any of the 3rd party synchronization tools that seem to offer solutions to this problem. A couple I've seen are odrive and GoodSync, I'm sure there are others. What is your experience or thoughts?

Ok, so I am giving an application called odrive a trial run. I'm still figuring out how it works but so far it has seemed to pickup changes in my images directories and synched them to my cloud storage at amazon. I need to figure out the nuances and the differences in capability between the free and the paid service. All I want is to have a regular synch that uploads new/changed content from my HDD to the cloud storage. I'm a little surprised that Amazon hasn't created this as a feature of their service but perhaps that is asking too much.

Well, it depends - the Amazon Cloud Storage for photos is just for photos, anything else won't fall under the terms of use for that service. I am not sure what the eip file is you are referring to but one the things I am considering is also backing up my Lightroom catalog to the cloud as well. I may back it up to Google Drive since that doesn't cost or restrict me to any file type limitations, and since the catalog and its backups are fairly small in size (hundreds of megabytes rather than gigabytes) I probably won't be pushing on any limits of free storage space any time soon.

I use this also on one of my computers, although not on the one with photographs. I think the OS would have to recognize the Amazon storage as a logical drive for this solution to work.

I don't use clouds.
A quick look at their website. It seems one has to buy the SyncBackPro for clouds.

Just me being a geeky mac OSX user with a smidgen of UNIX knowledge, but when I need to keep two folders identical on different drives, I just use the rsync command. If I want to set and forget, I create a chron job. Nearly all the OSX GUI syncing/backup packages just use rsync on the backend, anyway.

Probably useless for most folks who aren't command line jockeys and weren't thinking of adding cygwin or Windows ports of UNIX tools, but figured it couldn't hurt to post.

thanks Kathy, always interesting to see different solutions and sometimes in posting we forget that not everyone is running the same machine or OS. I'm sure there are windows equivalents such as schedule tasks and some sort of backup utility.

Update - After a brief trial it is clear that after initial period you are unable to un-sync folders unless you buy the premium version so I have given up on odrive. Now trying syncback!

Last week I bought and installed a Seagate NAS with 2x2T disks. So having either 2T data double or 4T data single. In the software there is the possibility to backup to a cloud. Again, I never used it. Amazone is mentioned for backups but not for sync. Don't know why.

Do your own search on Amazone or backup or sync or whatever.

That doesn't explain why backup is possible and sync not for Amazone using the Seagate software.
