    Wispy Waves

I mentioned in another thread inadvertently shooting a scene with dreamy, oozy water and thought I'd go ahead and process. There's nothing special about the image, just a handheld shot at 1/40sec, 145mm, f/11, ISO 1000. The camera settings were already chosen for another scene and as I framed this shot I just went for it, my intention was just to control the sky and capture the foliage, I didn't really consider the water at all except to control highlights. Comments welcome.

John, actually kind of an interesting shot. The little 'island' in the middle has some potential. I like the water, not a fan of silky water, and a fast shutter speed that freezes the water and turbulence is nice if you're looking for a freeze frame look, but you water looks very realistic, it appears the way we would I think view it ourselves.

As for the sky, there appears to be more detail in the sky than is showing so maybe you can pull some out. And if you had been using a (much) faster SS you have frozen that bird that's zipping down the river.

    Hi Jack,

Thanks for commenting. I agree the scene could be captured and processed differently, I was very cautious with the sky trying to warm and intensify the blues only and getting more contrast in the greenery. I'll give it a bit more emphasis and definitely try again with the same scene.

    Hi John

Interersting scene. I really like it, the simplicity works. As Jack mentions, the 'island' in the middle of the water, is defiantly the point of interest, and it somehow tells a story with the forrest in the background, and the rapid water.

What I would have done different is, open op the shadows a bit.

John, interesting shot.. but my eyes leads to the that distraction of a bird (as Jack mentioned...) It will also be nice that since the object of your title is the water, perhaps you can eliminate the sky altogether as the island and the flow of water here is just nice --neither too smooth nor too fast...just right. Just my thoughts...

    Hi Izzie,

I wish the foliage wasn't so thick or else I would remove the sky, I think for me it causes an abrupt stop of the vision if only water and trees; but I'll do a crop and see how it flows. Thanks for commenting. I may already have a shot without the sky.

I like it as it is, I really like the greens of late spring. I'm surprised you got such 'natural' looking water @ 1/40. I would get rid of the bird though, it does distract.

Hi John I agree with Isabel about eliminating the sky. IMO the trees and the water make a very nice scene and a strong composition.

I understand what you mean...moving it in lytebox, I think a little show of the sky on top will not be too bad...what do you think?

This works but a bit more lesser at the top will be nicer.
