    Vinyl Backgrounds

I don't like muslin backgrounds and I have several larger size canvas backgrounds which are heavy and unwieldy.

I'd like a seamless type background for photographing larger dogs (our larger dogs are not all that big). Especially on location when we have rescue events...

Has anyone ever used a vinyl background of this type.

The cost and size is right for me. However, I an apprehensive about the BG being shipped folded. The seller states that the creases are easy to remove but, I am not totally sure that is true.

I have the stands and crossbar so, the entire investment would be only $12.21 USD including shipping, which is certainly cheap. However, I don't want to purchase anything that I can't use. At least, my last muslin BG could be converted into rags for cleaning...

Of course, I could probably end up with a roll paper background...

Richard - any vinyl backdrop is really nothing more than a fancy shower curtain.

I looked at one of our shower curtains hanging in the guest bathroom. The wrinkles it had when we opened the package (probably about 9 years ago) are still there. Add to that, vinyl is generally a bit reflective, that will only add to your retouching work.

For the price I'd give one a try. Nothing to lose except a couple of dollars and you may find exactly what you're looking for.

Go to a discount store instead and find one that is on the roll instead of those that are end of rolls thrown on the discount table amongst the rest of other materials. The ones that you need will be thicker and similar to ones used to make vinyl pants a.k.a. can be substituted for leather but actually vinyl material. That is how I buy my materials. Jo-Ann's might have them on a roll...they usually do.

And it doesn't do the job it's supposed to do as well as a shower curtain does the job it's supposed to do.

Great idea Izzie! I do buy a lot of fabric for my backgrounds from Jo-Ann's since we are always getting discount coupons in the mail...

Try the "dollar bin," Richard. I buy fabric that way lots of times.

I saw some at a photo show a few years back. The ones that were being sold looked like shower curtains that had been painted, and they definitely had creases. The sales folks "guaranteed" that these would not be a problem.

    Call me a skeptic....
