    Which one? (6 images)

I have just returned from a trip to Australia and starting to randomly edit some of the photographs. The first photo was taken in the morning and is probably the best I took at the time.

However the sunset and afterglow on the lake was fantastic and I am having a hard time working out my preference so I would appreciate some comment.

The first image captures the glow best especially how it illuminates the reeds, the last image works because of the human element. Nicely done.

Paul I personally don't like the horizon in 2 being in the centre above or below ok but not in the middle I also prefer No5 to No4 because of foreground interest Apart from that all great particularly No 6 human element and all that

Paul, my preference is #1. I have seen reflections before and this one is a good one, however why not hone in on that mist in the top half of the picture also. Just a thought.

I like pictures #2 and 3. I think they are well and truly finished.

Pictures #4 and 5. forget them the colours are wrong. Just my opinion.

Picture #6 I 'kinda like' the silhouette of the anglers and the blue water is good. Don't know about the colour cast of the opposite bank though. That is only my opinion.
    Cheers Ole

    No.s 1 & 6 undoubtedly for me.

No. 1 is well rendered and beautifully produced with a fabulous reflection, No. 6 because of the silhouetted human inclusion.

Here are my rank amateur thoughts. I like #3. There is too much going on in #1 for me. I don't like the dark foreground in #2. I like the vegetation in the foreground of #5 as opposed to #4.

I think #1 is outstanding, #2 and #3 are quite good too. The last three don't do that much for me and could have been taken anywhere. Of the three, the last one is the strongest as it has an unambiguous subject.

    Re: Which one? (6 images)

    I think I am torn between #3 and #6.

#3 has more context and is less abstract than #2, plus it has lighter tones and better position of the horizon. Maybe a touch more colour saturation?

#6 is quite appealing because of the human element (father and son fishing?), nice colours and composition. I think it is an easy image to absorb that will appeal to a wide audience.

#4 and #5 have a very calm feel about them but there is not much going on, especially in #4.

#1 is an interesting one. It is sure very atmospheric and artistic, but I think you need to have a refined palette to choose it over #6 and #3.

Very enjoyable and stimulating series, thank you for sharing.

Number two. The simplicity and colour makes it stand out. The composition is more simple than the third and the varying colour of the sun is superior to the third. I like the curves and lines of the third, just prefer the study of the dead tree silhouettes and reflection.

The first is great. By itself with no need to choose a very appealing image. The reflection of the tree is a bit dark and the crop a bit tight to beat number 2.

Number 4 and 5 do not do much for me, I agree with Manfred.

Number 6 is interesting. Not as strong for me, then then that may be a preference for nature over people shots.

So: 2,1,3 and 6 in ranking

    Difficult to pick just one.

#1 is OK but the tree is a fraction tight to the top edge.

    #2 is excellent.

#3 is OK but perhaps getting a bit over complicated. Nice to see how the stumps reduce in size towards the right side though.

#4 has too much bland foreground for me.

#5 would have worked well apart from the out of focus grasses towards the sides.

    #6 is very good.

Roy I usually avoid putting horrizons in the middle but it was a deliberate choice for #2. The composition just seemed to work best with it near the centre and I dislike just off centre horrizons more than central ones. #4 I included just because I liked the texture and tonal graduations but it is definitely the weakest in the series. Your comments are appreciated.

Ole thanks for commenting. I have similar photo to #1 that does crop the top tree and emphasis the mist more but the composition does not seem to work as well. #4 I will forget but #5 is a little less saturated than the rest so I may boost it a little and up the brightness a fraction - I think the colour is probably OK. The anglers obviously add a different element to the series.

Thanks Ian. I suspect there would be many others that would make the same choice.

Hi Paul. Interesting to get a different perspective. I agree the vegetation in the foreground of #5 is an improvement on #4. Thanks for commenting.

Thanks Manfred you more or less are inline with my own assessment although I would not be brave enough to say say outstanding.

I agree with Manfred that #1 is outstanding. It immediately grabbed me.

My next favourites are #3 and #6.

Congratulations on a good set of photos. I'll look forward to seeing more!

No 1 & 6 for me Paul. Did you take a landscape orientation of No 1?
