It was a dark and stormy night

Actually; it was calm as anything and it was late evening. But the dark and stormy bit sounds better then "It was a Calm (with a bit of Cloud and the occasional light Breeze, just enough to keep the mosquitoes off), sort of late Evening or early Night (you know that early Twilight period where is a bit dark but not enough to be really either Evening or Night)"

Beautiful image - I'd probably over process a scene like this so I won't offer any criticism, but I really like it.

I looked at your 500px site, you are too modest about the over processing. I would say you have very good control over your processing and hit the mark every time. Brilliant stuff.

Nicely done. the lighting is beautiful, the image has good lines, and the foreground detail works. I don't have any suggestions for this one.

I love the light in this image, especially when viewed in the lightbox. And drama is right. It makes me want to be there, peaceful yet with anticipation.

Trevor, very nice photograph. It really does not matter what you call early evening or whatever.

I like it a lot but the artful dodger in me always wants to have a play with an image when I see a bit more black than I'd like - emphasis on "than I'd like," as it is always a matter of personal taste as opposed to pretty much anything else.

I put an Ultra Darks luminosity mask with a blend mode of "Screen" and found that the darks lightened a bit just bounced up the yellows and greens in the grasses and gave a tad more detail in the far horizon area... Just an idea. I only use ACR and Photoshop 7 so could not possibly tell you how to do it in any other program but I suspect others on here can.

Not your usual barn shot, but in reality if I see a dark cloud like this, I better hanker down and stay inside, wherever inside is. I kinda like the light shining from afar hugging the grass and the weeds/reeds and the lone tree...nice composition as always.

Post the result, I am always interested in other photographers interpretation. It is a useful learning exercise. Even if my program cannot quite do the same thing I can at least look at the final image and see what works.

A different vision, not as dark as mine. I will mull it over. Thanks for the posting, it is all grist for the mill.

Very nice image Trevor I think Chris brightened the image a bit too much . IMO some darks and shadows are needed with those dramatic clouds. So, an edit between yours and his might work fine

Re: It was a dark and stormy night

Any place where I opened up the darkest darks, I went back in and made sure the mask didn't affect the clouds. I was looking at the brightest part of the sky and thinking there should be more of that light on the grasses since they were lower to the horizon. Binnur may be correct in a nice place somewhere in the middle but it is still your vision and wherever that falls I think will make us all smile.

This looks like you've captured...(are you ready for this?).....the EDGE of Night.

    Very nice shot.
