    Can I ask whether you panned with the bird and just overlaid the 'earlier' shots over the final composition, or did you have the shot fixed (e.g. by tripod) to make accurate overlay of the gaps (or lack of) easier.

    Continuous pan and inserted back two after cutting and pasting. It makes it much easier. I did the same thing on an image I posted in one of the mini competitions, though it was a bit more complex because of the smoke.
