I took this portrait of this young monk at the Hemis monastery in Ladakh, India.

Really nice portrait... In fact, IMO, it is just about perfect. The red material of his clothing frames his face and the selective focus separates him from the BG. He is looking straight into our eyes with a "Mona Lisa" type expression that cannot be read easily. His eyes are the brightest segment of the portrait which leads attention to him...

As a nit-picking comment; I might, however try to reduce the brightness of some portions of the background.

Nice portrait but I have a big BUT -- the eyes reflects the red all over his face, have you tried to lessen the red reflection in his eyes and his face also have some red tinge too...or is it my screen? I just calibrated my monitor a few days ago.

Thanks Izzie... Are you referring to the Reds on his eyeballs (white portion)? If so, i remember when i spoke to him i noticed he had some redness in the whites of his eyes (not sure why). His face looks ok on my monitor.

I tilted my monitor right now and I can see detect some red in his face...I am guessing it is the reflection of the clothing he is wearing..just a thought. Perhaps I need another monitor calibration..

I agree the eyes are a little distracting and in fact the monk himself looks a little spaced-out. This might be a result of 'micro-timing'. It is a shame, as my first reaction to the photograph is "Well, this is really special." But after a few moments there is something a tiny bit off.....with the monk. Perhaps in a situation like this, if feasible, it would be better to take a few shots and interact a little. I used to wait in hotels and was frequently asked to take group shots with other people's cameras. This was well before the thought of buying my own. I used to put on a dodgy London accent and really make a big deal out of it, making jokes and saying things like "Show a bit more leg love" to the grandmothers. It usually helped make a natural shot.
