One busy sunflower

These shots of a very lonely (only one the garden) but busy sunflower were taken in my garden, using Canon 6D with a Canon EF 70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6 IS USM lens, remote release and tripod.
I am not sure if members can access the mega data, info below maybe of some relevance.
ISI 100, f stop between f5 and f7.1, t between 1/320 sec and 1/400 sec and focal length between 170mm and 220mm in all images.
I feel the composition in some of the images, is a bit weak. I seem to have a tendency to centre rather than using the "rule of thirds".
Would setting camera to mirror lock enabled, be of any use in this situation.

No, I don't believe those shutter speeds are going to be susceptible to camera shake on tripod.

I would shoot handheld anyway, although being in a fixed place (on a tripod) has enabled you to pre-focus and probably get more consistent results than I would have.

With such a simple subject, your compositional options are rather limited shooting at this distance.

If you do position the bloom off centre, I'd advise having it look 'in' to the frame - i.e. with more empty space 'in front' of it than behind. So, on 1 - 3, shoot with it more to the left side, but on #4, more to the right.

I'd prefer the subject larger in the frame, more like #4.

Welcome Gary The last image is my fav. If you crop it from the RHS to make a frame closer to square, it might make a better composition.

Nice images; i liked the images; i feel the way Dave felt. i think you may crop away unwanted surrounding retaining more space in front of the flower(left side or right side). Expecting more images

It has improved the composition, I feel.

Much improved, i think; since you wanted to include the supporting leaf fully within the frame you have to compromise on space in front of the flower... yet good
