I woke up dead early, couldn't get back to sleep so decided to grab my camera and head down to the beach with the dog.
I was there just before the sun broke the horizon so got some subtle shots and some as the sun came up with a little more drama. I wanted to capture the soft feel of the early light so bunged the 10 stop filter on to smooth things out a little and exposed a little to the right knowing I could lift the shadows without too much damage to the image.
This was about quarter past six - just before the sun came up - you can see it catching the tips of the clouds right on the horizon. I had the centre column flat and the legs almost as wide as they would go so the camera was just above the pebbles.

Once the sun was up the exposures went all to hell so a walked a little way along the beach to put the sun behind a convenient rock to help keep things under control. Again I had the camera just above the pebbles though this time right on the surf line to keep them out of the bottom of the shot as I wanted blur right to the edges.
