Shooting kids sport...thanks Bill (William W)

A few weeks ago (In this thread) I asked Bill for his advice on shooting sports as I am not used to shooting things that move

Last weekend I had a clear calendar and the chance to use Bills tips at my sons under 7s football game, I re read his post and headed down to the park.

I have to say my keeper rate must have doubled and post time reduced significantly as I wasn't spending so much time playing with sharpness. All images are cropped and reduced in size with minimal sharpening maybe 1-1.5 pix@40%

Well done, Robbie. That's a really good set of images.

I'm not sure there would be anyone who could have given you better advice and guidance that Bill did in that other thread ... and you would have paid a fortune for it. One of the wonderful things about this forum is that people like Bill are willing to share their knowledge.

Unfortunately in my part of the UK this type of photography would be a definite No No The photographing of children is frowned on even by parents. It's a sad old world

Sorry that I accidentally overlooked this wonderful series. You had nicely diffused light and you took full advantage of it.

Great shots Robbie, the key to action shots is getting your focus right and ensuring you have a very decent shutter speed.

You must use this opportunity to improve your photography and frame the shot perfectly without cropping.

I enjoy shooting wildlife photography and until 3 years ago used to shoot with centre point focus and crop photos. This is the easy way out. With photoshop and high megapixel cameras, you will almost always get a great result. If you ask yourself the question "Are you improving your photography skills?" The answer is "NO".

To improve my own skills, I spent over 3 months photographing my dogs running around in the park to improve my photography skills. And lo and behold I don't crop photos any more. I took over 10000 images and I experimented.

I believe you have the perfect opportunity to do this

Then more parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts and friends with cameras should line the fields each Saturday and Sunday morning and change all that sadness.
