You have lighting problems with some of these shots which has caused the whites to over expose. But difficult to avoid if correctly exposing for the brightest areas creates excessive shadows. Sometimes, exposing for those areas and adding a bit of fill flash to lift the shadows can help.

The first two are particularly affected by the harsh light but you have also lost some detail in white areas with the others. On some days, unless I can create a bit of artificial light shade I just walk away from the scene.

The last two are the best.

Nice series. I like cats too.
On # 3 and 6 I suggest to eliminate the black part of the foreground.
Some harsh highlights may be reduced in ACR.

Thanks for the comments, Geoff. Yes, a pity about the overexposure in the white areas. Lighting conditions were tricky: I was shooting through the railing above a staircase, with direct sunlight coming through a window above and behind me. I started shooting with one of the black cats lying there, and got the contrast more or less where I wanted, but didn't adjust when the ginger and white cat decided to join the party. I'm not sure fill-in flash would have done the trick: I have only a built-in flash, and both the landing and stairwell are very narrow, so I suspect I would have ended up with blown-out whites AND horrible shadows.

Thanks for commenting, Jean. I took the highlights down in RAW editing about as much as I could, but obviously it wasn't enough. Going to have to play around a bit more.
