A little bit more from our wedding anniversary cruise...C&C please

This is one of my first shots on a moving ship...

1 View from our deck residence near the elevator. The whole area from Deck 3 (lobby) to the 9th floor are full of this kind of paintings.

A little bit more from our wedding anniversary cruise...C&C please

2 Toulouse theatre -- where most entertainment happens. Well, I happened to be in line at the service desk to get me my playing card so I shot this. You can't feel the ship moving but most of my images shows it unless I put my shutter speed to 1/2000 which I always forget so I have a lot of bin shots.

A little bit more from our wedding anniversary cruise...C&C please

3 View from Deck 9 -- the delicious deck where all the restaurants are, most of which are freebies that comes with our fare. A few of them are 24/7. The one is supposed to be the icon of Carnival, the tail of the whale.

A little bit more from our wedding anniversary cruise...C&C please

    4 Leaving Fort Lauderdale

A little bit more from our wedding anniversary cruise...C&C please

5 And of course, the obligatory sunset shot...Sorry Dan if you are going to take a look at this post, I have to include the railing and the side of the ship to establish a bit of my environment...

A little bit more from our wedding anniversary cruise...C&C please

Thank you all so much for grinning and bearing with me. I sincerely hope I had taken you all with me as I really enjoyed our trip in some way. Gotta do it once per lifetime.

OK Izzie. Now it is my turn

#1 The ship that I was on featured a similar set of elevators, I found it best to photograph them when the lighting was at it its best, usually before most passengers had risen in the morning

#2 The Exif shows that the shutter speed was 1/10 sec, clearly a wee bit slow in any situation without stabilization.

#3 I seem to recall attempting similar images, the composition of whales tale did nothing for me with my shots... and they do nothing for me here. More to the point, it appears that the focus is on the clouds, as the whale's tail is beginning to become a bit fuzzy, the couple is way out of focus

#4 seems a bit under exposed to my eye

#5 This is my favorite from this batch. I also found that inclusion of the rail helped ground the shots of the at sea images.

I think this is one of those times when quality is not as important as the memories and the story.

Nice series, interesting comment about the ship movement; I would think you'd notice with your drink sitting on a table or are the tables bolted down?

Depends on the ship as the one that we were on is a sort of "party" ship. The activities are almost 24/7. After a while we just get on with your usual time of waking up and going to bed like we were at home. Even in the middle of the night there are people in the swimming pool.

#2 The Exif shows that the shutter speed was 1/10 sec, clearly a wee bit slow in any situation without stabilization.
My mistake...I took this quickly while Bill was in the shower or something and I needed to get a set of playing card with the Carnival logo splashes all over it as I collect playing cards on places I have visited. The line at the Service counter was a bit long and by the time I went back to our stateroom, Bill was already hungry. Poor thing.

#3 I seem to recall attempting similar images, the composition of whales tale did nothing for me with my shots... and they do nothing for me here. More to the point, it appears that the focus is on the clouds, as the whale's tail is beginning to become a bit fuzzy, the couple is way out of focus..
By that time I was still getting used to my camera settings and I kept focusing on the whale tail and it kept getting the focus out of it. The local photographers there (and there were some in the area...) must have been laughing at me taking the same shot over and over again...hard yakka pretending to be a photographer you know...

#4 seems a bit under exposed to my eye
Now this one is my favourite and the last one so I put a little bit of drama to the atmosphere and used Color Efex to get that effect. In reality, the scene is still bright at that time over there at 4pm. The ship let port at 4pm. My introduction to shooting in a moving hunk of metal. It ain't easy I tell you...

Thank you. Same as my thoughts.

Apprciate and thanks for the comments and thoughts.

Thank you for commenting, Maurice. I was easily struggling to get my first shots as this is the first time I have ever traveled in a ship unlike flying in an airplane.

Thank you, John and Binnur for passing by and commenting. Yes, I noticed it now that the horizon needs straightening. Will do that even if I didn't post the correction.

All tables and chairs and lounge seats are all bolted down of course...but I can feel the movement in my feet, sometimes at night we hear the engine running but not very loud. It is more obvious when we are in the stateroom and standing up I sometimes feel like I am falling backwards or something. Our stateroom is at the front of the ship...I know this because I got lost once...Now I know why there are house phones all over the ship. 8000 means help me locate where I am.

Seriously, big ships like that have good stabilizers, one can hardly feel the ship moving unless you concentrate on it and get sick. We once met a woman on one of the deck's elevator and she was also a first time cruiser. I asked how she is enjoying her trip and she said she wasn't because she feels sick all the time. I felt sorry for her.

As I had already mentioned in my reply to Randy, the whole ship is a party ship -- there will be dancing or games or comedy skits, karoake, etc. going on even when the ship was in port as not everyone goes down on port. We missed most of the dancing thing apart from the party for our wedding anniversary. We did not expect that one. It was fun. People we do not know sang and danced with us. It was a riot! I had 3 lobster meals that night.

In conclusion, if I had concentrated on the ship moving, I wouldn't have enjoyed myself and be able to show off my Hip Hop moves at that time...

Thanks for your comment and question...We will remember that trip most because it was a very important week for us.

    Hi Izzie,

I put off replying to this thread until I had time to do it properly, unfortunately, by the time this happened, Randy has raised all the issues I might have mentioned and you have answered those with more information which renders my making any further critique a bit pointless. I hope you're not too disappointed.

In conclusion, if I had concentrated on the ship moving, I wouldn't have enjoyed myself and be able to show off my Hip Hop moves at that time...
Is there a picture of this

The main thing was to enjoy yourselves and you did.

Absolutely in this case including part of the ship makes the shot IMO. Otherwise it's just another sunset

Dear Ole...Remember when it is 2°C and Ballarat still have snow at the time but Melbourne's snow decided to melt before it reached the ground? I think that was in 1982 or something...Once in a while, I remove my grumpy mask and have fun. The last few days were the best as I have fun with the nurses that helped when I was in hospital for my two procedures. I made them laugh when I was there and now they are fighting places amongst themselves who will deliver me the good news and stay on the phone with me for a while to make their day brighter. Nice to be appreciated.

BTW It is not a sin to have fun and have a grin on your face. You can do it, so can I.

Dear Dave, Bobo and Dan for passing by and commenting.

I know Dan...you've seen enough sunsets and sunrises to fill you up for many more years to come so I said what I said...

Dave, thanks again. I know you meant well..

Bobo...Good idea! I will have to find some in the next few days. Bill hasn't been going to his hangar since we came back so I can't escape, yet. Gotta go out sometime or I'll have the winter fever...and it's not even winter.

Izzie, I am always grumpy, irritable and hard to get along with. I always have fun though that will never change.
