Thanks for the comments. With the Greenfinches, I have moved the left side bird slightly to the right to get them a bit closer together. I did take a few single bird shots but thought I would include both in the same scene, but different poses, because it is so difficult to get two birds well focused in the same shot when using long lenses.
Week 46. Walking along the beach at Hope Cove
Not much of a week for photography but during a brief slightly brighter spell this morning I tried a bird hide; but nothing of any interest and what there was kept its distance. Then as I was driving home I noticed a good dark sky to the north with a patch of brightness to the south. So I did a short diversion to the little coastal village of Hope Cove. Looked over the wall and saw these young women walking along the beach. No time for thinking; just quickly found a possible angle and shot. By the time I had a look and a think about alternative settings they had moved too far to the right and the light was changing.

And tomorrow doesn't look likely for outside photography either.
Nice image Geoff, I like the reflections on the wet sand. And I can feel the stormy weather
Nice beach shot.
Good one
Nice composition and reflections.
Thanks for the comments.
I did have another shot with a little bit more surf.
I would have preferred to have some surf towards the middle of this scene. At the moment I feel the surf is directing viewers towards the left side and missing out on the wider scene. So all in all I prefer the previous shot - I think.

Geoff, it's a difficult choice between the two shots. The second one has more drama. It looks like the three individuals are going to walk straight into the breaking surf.
In both shots, my initial reaction to the building on the right side was that it's part of the superstructure of a ship on the other side of the rocks. But looking more closely, I see it's almost certainly a building on dry land.
Yes, Bruce, that building is the Burgh Island Hotel which places the scene definitely to Hope Cove. Which is why I wanted to include it.
The hotel was favoured by many of the artistic set during the 1930's including Agatha Christe, etc. The interior has been revamped in the original art deco style. It can be accessed across the sand at low tide but becomes a true island as the tide comes in.
On balance Geoff I agree, I also prefer the first, but it is a close call.
Fascinating history (Wikipedia) to the island hotel and the means of access when the tide is in.
Cheers, Dave
First for me as well Geoff. Nice image. You've had it pretty rough down there by all accounts. No repeat of last year's flooding I hope.
I prefer the first image too Geoff
Well, I have moved some sea around in the second image so it now looks like this
Somewhere I have an old photograph of that tractor thing which crosses the sand between island and land. It was constructed by a local agricultural engineering company and the image shows the men who did the construction work. It originally had a petrol engine but that often caused problems when spray shorted out the sparking plugs, so it was replaced with a diesel tractor engine.
A very nostalgic image, thanks for sharing
Week 47. One of those days where I had an idea but didn't like the conditions; so I tried it anyway.
After so much rain this was too good an afternoon to stay indoors so I had a look at a nearby cove then thought I would shoot some of the returning fishing boats as they went to their store boxes. But a rather harsh low angle yellowish light was producing a high contrast. Never mind, give it a go and try to edit through the problems.
Hustler.
7D with Canon 70-200 lens. 1/500 F11 Iso 400. Possibly a bit of crop and clone would remove the upper left store box. Not sure if it is better with or without that box.
Tenacious.

And finally, showing the harbour in winter with just a few fishing boats left afloat.
1/800 F11 Iso 400. Leaning out through a hedge to avoid foliage on the left side.
Geoff, in the last photo (post#77), your leaning out through a hedge worked well: no foliage.
I'm intrigued by the rafts that the fishing boats are tying up to. I have a very vague recollection that you've previously told me there is sub-marine storage under these rafts. Is that correct??
