Very nice, it's the buildings, leading lines for me. Could do with a bit of brightening of the foreground. I'd almost suggest cropping out the sun but the reflection gives a good return line.

    Re: Sundown

The foreground is a bit on the dark side but I fear that any attempt to brighten it would just turn 'muddy' so I would leave it alone.

There is probably another option by cropping square and losing some of the foreground. Not necessarily any better but just a different alternative.

    Regarding the foreground.

I copied this image using the snipping tool. I then, opened it in Photoshop CC.

    Sundown

I placed three control points, using the NIK Viveza Plug-In, on the image: rocks image right, foreground vegetation image right of the fence and the final control point on the lighthouse. I grouped these points and increased the brightness slider and structure slider.

Nice improvement Richard. I think you need to bring some of the orange/red back in the sunlight reflection on the buildings and above the horizon for my eye because that's what first caught my eye in the original but it's a little lost in the edit.

    Hi, Jeff

Admittedly, I tend to live on the dark of exposure and contrast, but I think I prefer the FG as you have left it- it seems entirely appropriate and natural to the position of the sun, and the amount of ambient light. I rarely disagree, with Richard, but in this circumstance, I think the brighter FG suggests a lighting source other than the very low-lying sun about to set, and that the color temp isn't consistent with the setting sun.

Second one is a real beauty, Jeff. almost HDR-like in the best sense. Not much contrast, but it really works here.

Nice image. I feel that Richard's edit makes the foreground too light. In the original I can see all the detail I'd expect but have to look carefully, as I would when the sun is well down

I just love the soft, moody look of the second image.

In the first image, it seems that the foreground object is an historic or geologic marker. What does it indicate?
