What a difference a day makes...

Comet, a two year old Maltipoo (Maltese + Poodle mix) arrived at our home at 9:00 PM last night. He was driven down from Los Angeles by one of our volunteers who had rescued him from a shelter. Comet has a fractured leg on which the vet at the shelter had placed a cast. The shelter also sent their X-rays.

He was in pretty scraggly and dirty shape.

Judy washed and groomed Comet this morning and I brought his X-rays to our orthopedic vet...

Our vet says that Comet will have a better chance or regaining full use of his leg with surgical intervention. I have an appointment for surgery at 7:00 AM tomorrow morning...

Noel also arrived with Comet from the same shelter. Noel is eight years old and has only three teeth. The other teeth had to be pulled due to gum disease. That is why Noel's tongue hangs out the side of her mouth. No teeth to keep her togue in her mouth.

Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about her tongue. However, she is such a sweet and darling dog, that people forget about her tongue as soon as they get to know her. Other than lack of teeth (we feed her kibble moistened with hot water and she eats it just fine). Noel is perfectly healthy. Maltese live for 12-16 years and sometimes older. We can expect that any adopter will have Noel for quite a long time.

I brought Noel to the vet today to be spayed (I have been to the vet at least once each day for the past week) and all the vet staff just loved her. Some dogs have that type of personality. We have a foster family ready for Noel but, she may be adopted very soon since we also have had two solid applications for adoption.

During Noel's trip to the vet, it was determined that she needed to lose two more teeth, leaving her one tooth...

Richard, I hope the surgery on Comet goes well tomorrow morning. Your vehicle must know its way to the vet, via autopilot!

Prancer and his broken jaw. No surgery needed but, his jaw needs to be stabilized for six weeks. However, he can eat and drink just fine.

Richard, how many Elizabethan collars do you have in use at the moment? It's a mystery to me how Prancer can eat but I'm glad he can.
Best wishes to you and your wife over the holidays.
