Thanks Nandakumar, I tend to agree with you. I thought that the clump of old tree roots and soil might add foreground interest, but it probably doesn't. I was essentially trying to capture the contrast between the springlike green of the growing wheat and the winteriness of the frost and bare trees and long midday shadows (this was taken at almost midday, but the sun doesn't get very high on 2nd January)

I agree. The frost in the foreground is great, but I don't think the log works as well.
