    Robber Fly with prey

The Robber Fly waits patiently for food to come within range of it’s needle like feeding tube. Life needs death and death needs life.

I played around a bit with this one. The focus was on the eye which meant the rest of the shot required a bit of touching up.

Good pic. I am always surprised at the slender body of these flies. For such a voracious predator, you might expect a more robust body.

I think of Robber flies as more spider like than voracious. They seem to wait for days for a meal to come along.

    Excellent shot, Brian.

There are quite a few species of robber flies and some have a slender body while others are more robust. I suppose being slender gives an advantage in speed and manoeuvrability.

Thanks. And in this case it could be needed to counter balance the massive chest?
