Another Fly
This is a Soldierfly - Chloromyia formosa
Took this one last year and it joined the queue for ID - now I have an ID I have processed it, a bit of a study shot really but otherwise the background was messy and the insect being very small it would have been lost. The flat neutral background works for me but is not to everyones taste

Re: Another Fly
Hi Binnur, thank you - nope thats the adult fly. They are rather nice, the name comes from the colours they have, a bit like soldiers uniforms not just drab browns etc. like 'nornal' flies

I do remember finding a 'baby' Soldier Fly once. It was a large, rather ugly-looking maggot, quite unlike the resplendent adult.

Re: Another Fly
Thanks Izzie, yep they dont take kindly to artistic direction
Indeed John, but its the same with Hoverflies - a lot are called rat tailed for a good reason - but they do emerge to being nice looking adults - hmm sounds like most children
